Your First Response Kit

One of my friends sometimes texts me “kirtan 911,” her way of asking if there's a kirtan happening that she can get to right away. It's her signal that she needs quick relief, a way to shift her energy and soothe her heart. I love the phrase, because sometimes self-care really is that urgent.

Calm isn't usually something we can think ourselves into. It often arrives when we tend to the body first — through a breath, a stretch, a walk, a song, or simply sitting quietly on the porch. These small, physical acts can open the door to easing our tangled minds and lightening our heavy hearts.

This week, I invite you to create your own First Response Kit. Write down the practices that bring you immediate relief, your personal tools for the mind, body, and heart. Experiment with them. Reach for them. See what happens when you consistently call on these small, grounding actions in the moments that need them most.

Your First Response Kit is there for times when you're overwhelmed, and for ordinary times, as well. If you try this, I'd be curious to know what makes your list. Would love to hear from you!
