Tapping into Your 'Health State'

I recently stumbled upon a quote that, despite my skepticism about its accuracy, left an impact on me. Here it is:

"According to the yoga tradition, to be healthy and sane one needs to have at least 4 hours off a day, at least 1 full day off a week, at least one full weekend off a month, and at least 3 full weeks off a year.”

We can learn from this, although it sounds too modern to be a direct quote for the ancient wisdom tradition of yoga. In today's fast-paced world, it is a poignant reminder of the need for unscheduled time — time that allows us to tap into what I refer to as our "health state.”

The "health state" is a deep sense of inner balance and freedom, fostering a steady and harmonious rhythm in one's life. Unscheduled time leaves room for life, play, inspiration, spontaneity and is foundational for an effective health routine and life.

I believe it is from the 'health state,' rather than relying on willpower or force, that we naturally prioritize physical activity, make nourishing food choices, maintain a consistent sleep schedule and engage in mindfulness practices.

The key is to remember that when we step away from our responsibilities we return to ourselves.
