Embrace the Art of Doing "Nothing"

“What are you doing this weekend?”

“As much nothing as possible!” one of my clients always says.

The beauty is that, doing "nothing" is, in fact, doing something profoundly valuable. In the Buddhist tradition, creating emptiness is not a lack of activity but a deliberate practice of making space for mindfulness, peace and introspection.

His response serves as a powerful reminder of the value of emptiness and space, especially as we approach a holiday weekend. In today’s society, we're often pressured to fill our free time with elaborate plans and constant activity. We measure the worth of our weekends by how much we do, rather than how well we rest, recharge and feel. This mindset can leave us feeling exhausted, rather than fulfilled.

This weekend, I invite you to resist the urge to fill every minute with busyness. Instead, savor the stillness and cultivate a sense of inner calm that our busy schedules rarely allow.
