A Small Change With A Big Payoff

I was once asked, “What is one small thing people can stop doing each day that could make a huge difference in 30 days for their health?”

My answer: Distracted eating.

Through my work, I’ve noticed that people often see mindful eating as pressure to pay attention to what they’re eating, without thinking about how they’re eating. Eating in the car, in front of the TV, or at your desk disconnects you from the nourishing act of caring for your body.

While the quality of our food is undeniably important, the state of our body and mind while eating is equally critical. When we eat hurriedly, or while distracted, stressed, or disconnected, we miss the opportunity to truly experience and enjoy our meals.

I know it can feel like a tall order, especially when time is tight. But even carving out 15–20 minutes to be present while eating—or committing to one mindful meal a day—can make a meaningful difference. Not only does it enhance digestion and satisfaction, but it also influences how you show up for everything else in your life.
