What Are You Practicing For?

My meditation teacher loves to ask: “what are you practicing for?”

The question urges us to explore the essence of our practices—a powerful reminder that in our rush to do the “healthy things," we mustn't mistake the technique for the goal.

In our pursuit of health, it's natural to become entwined in techniques and exercises or to just go through the motions. However, remembering that they are a vehicle toward a more profound destination—the cultivation of presence, vitality, and balance — unlocks the door to a richer more, fulfilling existence.

I encourage you to apply the intention behind your health practices to a simple, everyday event. Whether it's savoring a meal, running late because of traffic, or having a heartfelt conversation, see how it enriches your experience. We can transform routine moments into ones of purpose and meaning, in order to live a life that feels healthy and vibrant—regardless of the setting.
