Looking for a Healthier Relationship with Food? Try This!

I was once asked: “What is one small thing people can stop doing every day that could make a huge difference in 30 days for their health?”

My answer: Distracted eating.

Eating on the go, in front of the TV, or while multitasking has become common in our fast-paced lives. However, this habit significantly impacts our relationship with food and overall well-being.

Mindful eating turns the act of eating into a meditative practice, allowing us to engage fully with the present moment and our delicious food! By incorporating mindfulness techniques such as focused attention and sitting calmly, eating becomes more than just a physical necessity—it becomes an opportunity for connection and total body nourishment. Eliminating distractions allows us to savor each bite, notice the flavors and textures and listen to our body's hunger and fullness cues so that we don’t overeat. This practice cultivates a deeper connection with ourselves, our food and enhances our enjoyment of food.

I chose distracted eating, because it applies to people of all ages and fitness levels. Whether you're in your daily routine, on vacation, or on a work trip, practicing mindful eating is accessible and beneficial. Plus, since most of us eat three meals a day, we have ample opportunities to incorporate this practice into our lives.

I understand that finding time to sit down and eat mindfully may seem challenging, but even stopping for just 15-20 minutes to sit down and eat, can make a world of difference. If you try it, write to me! I would love to hear about your experience.
