A Birthday Tribute: A Lesson from My Mom

Today is my mom's birthday, so in honor of her, I thought I would share something she's taught me: the art of nurturing connections. She adores people and has a remarkable ability to create meaningful bonds from the heart—something we desperately need more of.

I remember bringing a friend home once, and she said, "Wow, your mom really wants to spend time with you. She wants to sit, talk, and hear about how you're actually doing." It stuck with me because it emphasized how special and valuable that kind of presence is.

In a world where communication often feels rushed and transactional, my mom chooses a different path. She nurtures relationships through handwritten letters and postcards—a lost art—or by meeting someone for tea, savoring the simple act of being present with another person.

True health isn't just about what we eat or how we move; it's about the connections we create with others. My mom has always understood this well.

This week, I invite you to write a note, call someone you've been thinking about, or sit down for an uninterrupted conversation. Who is one person you'd love to connect with this week?
